Our
Story

Get to Know Us

My name is Matt Scales. I am a farmer from Union, SC. Around 2 years ago my wife Kristi and I were getting ready for bed and I looked at her and said, " We are not where we need to be." It was something that I had known for a while but for some reason that night, I had to say it out loud. As we unpacked that, started to pray and seek God, He was gracious to reveal a call for us into mission work. He showed use through study of the Bible his heart for the nations. We felt the strong urge to help show His Kingdom through service as a way to bring others to Him so we could all be together in the scene shown in Revelations 7:9. This has led us to accepting a position in Uganda. Please read below to learn more about this call.

Our Mission

Our Call

We are the Scales family, Matt, Kristi, Wylie, James and Wilbur. We are believers in Jesus Christ from Union, SC. A few years ago we began to feel God's call to serve Him in international ministry.  Through prayer and research, we have joined Mesa Global, a mission organization based in North Carolina. We  serve in Bugiri, Uganda at New Life Ministry Center. This center exists to transform lives through equipping village pastors with vital Biblical training, giving vulnerable village girls Christ-centered life skills, and helping little ones get an excellent start in their educational journey at the newly opened preschool.

We landed on February 20th, and have been following God's lead for ministry since. Uganda is wonderful country, thanks to the people, but there is a need here. Poverty of money, healthcare, education are prominent fixtures of this society. We feel the call daily to aid our brothers and sisters, because the gospel is the only solution.

Our vision

When God began to stir our family to international ministry, we knew agriculture would be a piece of the story, as Matt is a third generation farmer. The New Life Ministry Center has a farm, which needs to produce to feed the students and employees. Matt is  serving as Farm Managers. This opportunity not only allows for hands on work he feels specifically called to, but also a ministry opportunity for us to the community.

Matt is currently working the second harvest. There have been some lessons along the way, like watermelon is difficult to grow, but eggplant loves the soil. Maize is more resilient than sweet corn. God has been so good to supply, and an irrigation system is in place for part of the land now. Most importantly we have seen farm workers come to Christ as Matt leads daily morning devotions. Continue to pray for those who are still non believing.

Our Team

We joined the Actis family. Matt and Shelley have been serving in Uganda for over 10 years, opening the ministry center during that time. Currently Matt Actis is an educator of local pastors. Shelley oversees the ministry center which includes the school for girls, preschool, and is a place for local ministries to meet.

We are so grateful for our team, but would love others to come join us. If you feel the call or just want to come visit to see for yourself please let us know!

Ways to Give

Get Involved

As we started to pursue mission work, we started to understand that it would not be in our power to fund this by ourselves. God has shown us that this ministry is not ours alone but a collective from our Christian community.

We have special projects and our monthly giving as well. Please see below for info on these.

If you are interested please contact us, we would LOVE to talk with you.

TRACTOR FUND

Since being in Uganda we have felt the need for a tractor at the center. This would enable us to train multiple farmers in the community on equipment, streamline some food production processes here, and give another educational class for our girls in the center. We have priced the tractor at $50,000, and have raised $15,000 so far!! If you are interested in giving a one time donation to this you can write a check to our home church (see below) and label is tractor fund.

Check:
